Hello to the Rick Anderson place building!

We’ve begun our fundraising journey to raise approximately $300,000.00 for the Rick Anderson Place move,  and we need your help. Your generous donation, whether big or small, will help us bring the dreams of our island residents to life.

The Rick Anderson Place will offer health and wellness opportunities for all ages, strengthening our community while combating loneliness, which is often prevalent in smaller communities like Anderson Island.  It isn’t just about exercise; it’s about building a stronger community.  Together, we can make this happen.

Expansion time!

The current facility is in a small, historic one-room schoolhouse, which is special on Anderson Island because it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. However, it lacks modern amenities, such as on-site water access, which means there are no accessible plumbing facilities and no means to expand at the current location. The fitness center currently lacks a dedicated classroom, which prevents it from offering expanded classes for all ages.

With your support, we will move to The Rick Anderson Place once the Parks Department completes the renovations. This spacious, modern facility will feature a well-equipped fitness center and a dedicated classroom offering a wide array of fitness programs and resources for all ages, from families to seniors.

We are also collaborating with The Anderson Island Health Advocates (AIH) to bring Physical Therapy to our island. The plan is to offer space for PT offices to treat clients using our facility. This brings PT to the Anderson Island community and allows PT offices to see patients on the island in a fully equipped space.

Expanded after-school programs on the island!

The Youth of Anderson Island

Anderson Island, a remote community with approximately 1,600 full-time residents, has a median age of 60 and a small population of school-aged children. It faces unique challenges because it relies on ferry access. The Anderson Island Community Fitness Center works to improve the health and well-being of this isolated community by providing accessible, affordable fitness options. However, the island’s isolation particularly impacts children, as older students must commute off-island for school, significantly limiting their access to recreational facilities and after-school programs.
